Struggling Venus exits San Diego04.08.2007 08:00 Sports Wimbledon champion Venus Williams wasted a match point as she was beaten by third seed Anna Chakvetadze in the Acura Classic in San Diego. Chakvetadze, 20, sealed a 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 win to book an all-Russian semi-final with Maria Sharapova. "I was not at my best level," Williams said. "I'm really tired and it showed. Lots of things went wrong in my game." Top seed Sharapova earned an efficient 6-2 6-1 win over India's Sania Mirza despite a lingering shoulder problem. "I had a good start and was able to play my game," said the world number two, one of five Russians to reach the quarter-finals. "I've got confidence here, and I'm ready to step it up in my next match." The other semi-final will feature Patty Schnyder, who upset Russian fourth seed Nadia Petrova 6-4 6-4, against Elena Dementieva, who beat fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-4.
