Sharapova makes winning return02.08.2007 09:00 Sports Defending champion Maria Sharapova made a winning return from a shoulder injury at the Acura Classic in San Diego. The world number two beat Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-1 6-3 in her first match since losing to eventual champion Venus Williams at Wimbledon. "The shoulder's still not perfect, but right now I know it's not going to get any worse," said Sharapova after her second-round victory. Williams also won in San Diego, beating Virginie Razzano of France 6-2 6-4. "I made some errors, but played very aggressive and she played really well," said Williams, who has won the Acura Classic three times and who now meets sixth seed Daniela Hantuchova. "She didn't give me any points and was trying with all her heart." Other winners includes third seed Anna Chakvetadze, eighth seed Dinara Safina and ninth seed Elena Dementieva.
