Germany legend Lothar Matthaus is to coach Israeli first division side Maccabi Netanya from June.

Matthaus has had several coaching jobs since ending his playing career in 2001, including spells in charge of Rapid Vienna and Hungary.

The 47-year-old, who is still studying for his German coaching badges, has also just finished a period of observation with Internazionale.

He has now agreed to take the reins at Netanya, who are currently second in the Israeli league.

"I have signed a two-year contract," Matthaus told the Sunday edition of the Bild newspaper.

Matthaus captained Germany to World Cup glory in 1990 and made 150 appearances for his country over 20 years.
