Kerr goal on his debut gives Hibs win over Hearts06.08.2007 23:00 SportsGLASGOW (Reuters) - An early goal from Hibernian's Brian Kerr earned them a 1-0 victory in the Edinburgh derby clash with Hearts in their Scottish Premier League opener on Monday. Kerr headed Hibs in front after just two minutes of his debut following a mistake by Christos Karipidis. The Hearts defender swung wildly at a cross by Steven Fletcher and failed to connect, allowing Kerr smash a downward header from six metres past goalkeeper Steve Banks. Hibs came close to a second when Moroccan striker Abdessalam Benjelloun latched on to a diagonal ball to the right of the penalty area from compatriot Merouane Zemmama but his shot flashed past the left post in the 54th minute. Hearts keeper Banks dived to his right to brilliantly push away a 20-metre free kick from David Murphy on 64 minutes as Hibs underlined their superiority. Champions Celtic opened their campaign at the weekend with a 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock while last season's runners-up Rangers beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-0.
