Reports in Portugal are claiming Benfica want Manchester United's Carlos Queiroz as their new boss.

Diario de Noticias reported that a deal was all but sealed, while A Bola believed that informal talks between the two clubs had already taken place.

The speculation comes after the Portuguese giants - who are currently second in the league behind Porto - parted company with their Spanish coach Jose Antonio Camacho on 9th March.

Former Portuguese international Fernando Chalana has been appointed interim boss and will be in charge until the end of the season as the club search for a permanent replacement.

Queiroz has been Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United since 2004 - his second spell at Old Trafford - after failing as a No.1 at Real Madrid in between.

He has also been head coach for the national sides of Portugal, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.

The 55-year-old has previously made it clear he was honoured by the interest being shown in him by the famous club.
