Beckham hopes to play against DC

David Beckham hopes to make his Major League Soccer debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy against DC United on Thursday.

The 32-year-old midfielder has stepped up his recovery from an ankle ligament injury and can now kick a football.

He has been limited to 13 minutes of action in a friendly against Chelsea since moving to the United States.

"It's improving every day," said Beckham. "A lot of people, including myself, want it to improve quicker. Hopefully I'll play some part of it."

But Galaxy spokesman Justin Pearson was less confident: "David is still questionable."

What will be in Beckham's favour of playing at the RFK Stadium against DC United is that the game will be played on natural grass.

Beckham missed Galaxy's 0-0 draw against Toronto FC on Sunday, which was played on an artificial FieldTurf surface

"I think it's a huge factor that it's on grass instead of FieldTurf," added Beckham.

"That's one thing that should change about the league. Every team should have grass."
